First detox experience

Hello all - For some of you who have read my posts before you may have noticed some changes I have made.  For my new friends, I would like to welcome you to my blog.  I hope you will find my posts helpful and encouraging.  Here we go!

It has been about one week since I finished my first detox and I am feeling great!  I am not going to list the week by week details in this post but if you would like more info please don't hesitate to contact me.  I would love to share some with you!  Overall, I lost seven pounds, increased how many days I exercise each week and learned a ton of new info that I am excited to incorporate into my daily life.  For example, stevia is awesome and you only need a small amount.  Try it on top of some pancakes with cinnamon or on top of some strawberries.  Yum!!

Anyway, back to the main point of this post, today I want to share some highlights of what I expetienced and how it has impacted my day to day habits.

1.  healthier nails - longer and stronger, not much to manage now

2.  less PMS - my symptoms were not significant prior to this detox but I was able to better identify why I was having certain symptoms and they were not as physically intense

3.  irratability increased with sugar - one of the goals of this detox was to eliminate all sugar from my diet including high glycemic fruits (ex. red apples and melons) and low glycemic sugars (ex. raw honey).  I was not 100% during this detox and I gave in a few times.  I noticed within 24 hours how my irritability increased significantly, showing me how much of an effect sugar has on my emotions.  One encouraging thought I kept in my mind was, "It's not about perfection, it's about progression." (Marandia Burcham)

4. wounds heal quicker - minor cuts and scrapes heals within a day or two

5.  Anxiety connected to eating - when I felt anxious or stressed my first thought was to want something to eat.  Having this awareness taught me that I am looking to things that will not ultimately give me the peace and satisfaction I am looking for when I am struggling.  I am working on this area now and have experienced more peace lately :) One encouraging verse I recalled a lot duri g this time was Galatians 6:9, "let is not grow weary of doing good, for in die season we will reap, if we do not give up."

6.  crave more veggies - WHAT?! Yep, you read that right.  I have learned a little bit more of how to get up to five veggies a day, even in my breakfast.

7.  Learning to listen to my body and know when I am REALLY full.  HINT:  It is about 20 minutes after I have stopped eating.  Sometimes it is still tough to stop so I am trying in incorporate some of these tips --- slow down when I eat, take a deep breath in between bites.

8.  My sugar cravings have changed for the better --- when I want something sweet I try for one piece of fruit that has a higher glyceminc index (red apples, bananas, melons, even white potatoes) verses chocolate.

9.  More energy, espcailly to keep up with an increased work out routine.

10.  Learning to be thankful for everything, even the small stuff!  I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow and share my experiences with others.  Taking time out to do this has allowed me to create an awareness for what I eat and why am making those choices.  Now I am working on keeping a thankful attitude, which will benefit my health all around.

This first detox was a great experience and I look forward to the next one!  If one or more of these highlights stood out to you, feel free to contact me and I can share more info with you :)
